Bio

I am a self taught artist who began painting on a very limited basis in the 80’s. I began painting on a more regular basis in the mid 90’s, after a trip to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. I was inspired by the color of Van Gogh, Cezanne and Matisse as well as more contemporary artists. I have shown my work in various venues in Nashville, Hendersonville and Gallatin. I have also shown and sold work in Valle Crucis, North Carolina. I have been recognized in competitions and with commissioned work. I was commissioned to do a painting of South Street Restaurant in Nashville. (Prints available) I am a member of the Monthaven Art Society in Hendersonville, Tn. I live in Gallatin, Tennessee with my wife, Lisa and our three cats.

My love of color is expressed in my work. I normally work on representational and abstract paintings simultaneously and enjoy the freedom going from one thought process to another. I view my paintings as expressions of my own view of the world. Much of my work has been described as Expressionist. I try to see a place or object in a personal way and use form and color to express myself. My abstract paintings are often constructions that begin without a plan but seem to complete themselves with me left to interpret and title them. At its best the painting process is a spiritual flow of color and movement. Other times involve a struggle and working out the puzzle. The results in both cases involve satisfaction and occasional amazement.
